Forest Schools

Early years pupils sat in around fire circle in Bradley WoodBranch Out - Forest Schools in Leeds

Branch Out is a project that is based on the Scandinavian idea of Forest Schools - an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning. The project is working with early years groups from schools and informal groups from through out Leeds, running a range of exciting activities to involve children in a woodland environment. Supported by trained staff, they learn to develop confidence in their abilities, and build on their self esteem and self control during visits over a period of several weeks. Forest Schools can have a thoroughly positive life changing effect on the individuals that attend them.

The Branch Out Project is a partnership between Groundwork Leeds and BTCV Skelton Grange with generous financial support from the HSBC in the Community
programme and employee involvement from HSBC and first direct employees in the region.

Sessions are free and will be run one morning or afternoon a week, usually for a period of 12 weeks  - activities will be structured according to the group’s needs. The project will begin in Easter 2006 and will run as a pilot for a year.
